ASEAN Intellectual Property Association

On 1 December 1996, the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association was officially established and granted official NGO status by the ASEAN Secretariat in 1998.

Dato' VL Kandan, who was elected as the association's first president, noted that the "private sector has set the standard for co-operation in establishing the ASEAN IPA".


According to our constitution objects of the association are -
  • to foster ties of mutual friendship, cooperation and understanding among those who are concerned with intellectual property in the ASEAN countries

  • and, through such ties, to promote the development and protection of intellectual property in ASEAN".

Membership in the ASEAN IPA is open to private IP practitioners
(individual membership)and IP organizations (coporate membership) in the region.
